British heavy metal band, one of the most prominent of the eighties, led by Steve Harris (1957).Created in 1975 by Steve Harris himself and guitarist Dave Murray in London's working-class East End neighborhood, it was named after a torture instrument from the Middle Ages ( Iron Maden , which means Iron Lady ).

After several changes, the group remained quite stable from 1982: Founders Steve Harris and Dave Murray were joined by Nico McBrain (percussion), Adrian Smith (guitar) and Bruce Dickinson (vocals).The changes did not affect the quality of the work, and both Piece of mind (1983) and Powerslave (1984) were best-selling albums in Europe, although the American market is still resisted them.

The triumph in this market was verified after a series of international tours that were included in the double album Live after death (1985).His next work, Somewhere in time (1986) reached number three on the UK charts and eleven in the United States.At that time, specialized critics began to censor the group's stagnation, which was accused of reiterating the same formulas.
