Claudio Orrego Vicuña
(Santiago, 1939-1982) Chilean politician.He studied at the Ramiro de Maeztu Institute (Madrid), at the French Lyceum in Cairo, and at the Saint George School in Santiago.After finishing his humanistic education, he entered the Catholic University of Santiago, where he studied sociology and philosophy.He then continued his training in Leuven (Belgium), where he graduated in social sciences.He was a university professor at the Catholic and Chilean universities.Militant of the Christian Democracy, during the presidency of Eduardo Frei Montalva he held the position of director of operations of the Ministry of Popular Promotion (1965-1967).Later he was director of the newspaper La Nación and advisor to President Frei.Under the Popular Unity government (1970-1973) he was a staunch opponent of Salvador Allende's management.He was the author of several controversial books on politics and sociology: Solidarity or violence, Chile's dilemma.
