Gaston Eyskens
(Liery, 1905-Louvain, 1988) Belgian politician and economist.He joined the Social Christian Party, and became a deputy to Parliament in 1939.He was Finance Minister in the governments of Van Acker and Paul-Henri Spaak.Being Prime Minister in 1958, he had to face the problem of the independence of the Belgian Congo and dissolved Parliament.He returned to this position in 1968, and faced the problems of the Walloon and Flemish nationalities through a decentralization and autonomy plan, but failed to resolve them and was dismissed.He was a great promoter of European unity.He wrote some works on economics, such as The economic situation of the Belgian Congo .
