Abba Eban (Aubrey Solomon Meir; Cape Town, 1915-Tel Aviv, 2002) Israeli politician.Transferred with his family to England, Abba Eban was trained at Queen's College, Cambridge University, for which he graduated in philology, and early embraced the Zionist cause, eventually presiding over the Zionist Youth. Abba Eban During World War II he was a collaborator of the Allies (he was attached to the British Intelligence Service), and, since the creation of the State of Israel, he was the representative of the new country to the UN (1948-1959).As ambassador to Washington, a position he held from 1950 to 1959, he sought to increase US aid to Israel.
