Josep Clará

(Olot, 1878-Barcelona, 1958) Spanish sculptor.At the age of 13 he entered the art academy of his hometown, which was governed by D.José Berga Boix, and where he received teaching in drawing and painting oriented towards the landscape.In 1897, he went to Toulouse, where he entered the School of Fine Arts.He obtained sculpture prizes in the years 1897, 1898 and 1899.

In 1900, he won another award, the Petit Prix of the municipality of Toulouse, for a bas-relief of Cincinnati, but failed when trying to get a pension in Paris.He made the trip on his own and began to earn a living from painting and sculpture commissions.In Paris he was introduced to Rodín and worked in Barrias's workshop.In 1906, he made the statuary of the Monte Carlo Casino, and, from that date, his triumphs and important commissions followed, which he gave shape in his workshop on Malakoff avenue.
