Anastasio Bustamante
(Jiquilpan, Michoacán, 1780-San Miguel Allende, Guanajuato, 1853) Military and Mexican statesman who was twice President of the Republic (1830-1832 and 1837-1841).

He studied arts at the Guadalajara seminary and medicine in Mexico City, although he did not get a degree.Attracted by arms, in 1808 he joined the royalist army as a cavalry officer, under the command of the future general and viceroy Félix María Calleja del Rey.He participated in the actions of the Army of the Center and reached the rank of colonel.
Despite starting his military career in the royalist ranks, when the emancipatory movement broke out in 1821 he adhered to the Plan of Iguala and conquered the squares of Celaya and Guanajuato, facts that earned him the trust of Agustín de Iturbide , who placed a division at his command.Elected member of the Provisional Board of Government, the regency appointed him Field Marshal and Captain General of the eastern and western provinces.When Iturbide and the empire fell, Bustamante retained his Iturbide affiliation.
