Antonio Ugarte
(Vizcaya, c .1780-?, 1833) Spanish politician.An agent of the Russian embassy and an ally of the Russian Tatischev, he was introduced by the latter to the court, where he became one of the main characters of the Ferdinand VII clique, and, thanks to his skill as an intriguing, achieved the downfall of the Marquis of Campo Sagrado and its replacement by Eguía.

With the support of Eguía and Tatíschev, he made the purchase of a series of Russian ships to transport the expeditionaries who had to fight against the South American independentists, but which were completely useless for the southern seas and rotted in the bay of Cádiz, for which he was imprisoned in the Alcazar of Segovia.
Ugarte was exiled after the revolution of 1820 and, after the absolutist regime was restored (1823), he was appointed secretary of the Council of State, but, warned the king of the power he was acquiring, he was sent as ambassador to Sardinia in 1825.
