Edmund Rubbra

(Northampton, 1901-Chalfont Saint Peter, Buckinghamshire, 1986) British composer.His symphonic work (eleven symphonies between 1937 and 1979) stands out for its bold and austere language.He also composed chamber music (four string quartets, 1933-1977) and religious music ( Festival Te Deum , 1951).He was a professor at the University of Oxford (1947-1968) and at the Guildhall School of Music in London (1961-1974).
