Elías Querejeta
(Elías Querejeta Gárate; Hernani, 1930-Madrid, 2013) Spanish film producer.He studied chemistry and law, while at the same time he was part of the Real Sociedad de San Sebastián football team, a career he abandoned at the age of 24.He was a regular at the screenings held by the city's film clubs, where he met other young people-Víctor Erice, Antonio Eceiza-who would study at the Official Film School of Madrid.

In 1961 he founded his first company, Laponia Films, at the same time that he collaborated with other production companies on his first films.After directing several short films, in 1964 he decided to found Elías Querejeta P.C.From his first films, he defined the style he wanted to print in his works, intervening in almost all of them as co-screenwriter, while gathering around him a group of professionals who would guarantee the finish of each film (Luis Cuadrado and Teo Escamilla as directors photography; Primitivo Álvaro, in the production; Pablo G.del Amo, in the editing; and Luis de Pablo, in the music).
With The hunt (1965) began a close collaboration with Carlos Saura for more than fifteen years.At the same time, in his long career he would be behind films such as The spirit of the hive , Pascual Duarte or Tasio , which made him worthy an enormous international prestige.He supported the careers of directors such as Francisco Regueiro, Víctor Erice, Ricardo Franco, Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón, Montxo Armendáriz and that of his own daughter, Gracia Querejeta.
Although his cinema was more geared towards less commercial areas, many of his films achieved notable success, also becoming solid pillars of Spanish cinematography, as well as indisputable references in its history.Most of his productions were awarded in the most important international festivals (Cannes, Berlin, Venice, San Sebastián, San Francisco) and his trajectory reviewed in the most remote places of the world.In May 1998, the Spanish Academy of Cinema and Cinematographic Arts awarded him the Gold Medal for his career and contribution to Spanish cinema.In February 2001 he was awarded the Gold Medal for Fine Arts.
