Iyengar was born in a poor family of Hebbar Iyengar and his childhood was not easy at all. His hometown, Bellur, Karnataka (India ) He was under the threat of the flu epidemic at the time he left so he grew up as a sick and fragile child.His father died when he was 9 years old, and several diseases he suffered during his first years were of life , including malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid fever and malnutrition in general.
When he turned 15 years Iyengar went to live with his wife, the acquaintance Yogi Sri Tirumalai Krishnamacharya of Mysore .It was there where he would begin to know and practice asana (the different 'positions' that within yoga, aim to act on the body and mind), something that allowed him to improve a lot your health.
Iyengar is encouraged by his crush to move to Pune to teach yoga in 1937. That's where he begins to develop his practice to which he dedicates many hours a day, in order to learn and experiment with various techniques.His methods are improving and with this, the number of students in his classes is growing and his fame is expanding.
Along with the classes, c fails to write books which leads him to become increasingly popular in the world. For many he is the "Father of Yoga" in the West and Even Time magazine included him among the 100 most influential people in the world in 2004 and was a Nobel Peace candidate.Many are the Yoga centers that bear his name.
BKSIyengar died on August 20, 2014 at the age of 95, leaving behind a legacy of teaching that we can continue practicing Yoga susasanas as taught He was born and of course, reading his books as "Light on Yoga", written in 1996 and with which he opened the eyes of the world to yoga and was translated into 17 languages.Other titles like "Light on Pranayama" soon followed., «Light on the Yoga Sutras of Patajali» to form a list of 14 books.
