Higinio Morínigo
(Paraguarí, 1897-Buenos Aires, 1985) Paraguayan military and politician who was President of the Republic between 1940 and 1948.He entered the Military School in 1916.For not wanting to participate in The 1922 revolution was destined for Encarnación, Concepción and the distant Chaco forts.He participated in the Chaco War, in which he was decorated and reached the rank of colonel.In 1939 he was appointed Minister of the Interior and the following year of War and Navy, with which he was promoted to Brigadier General.
Higinio Morínigo
In 1940, after the death of General José Félix Estigarribia, he temporarily assumed the presidency of the Republic; in 1943 he was elected president in property.Higinio Morínigo then began a bloody dictatorship that produced numerous revolts and massive emigration, introducing the death penalty with the only requirement of the "intimate conviction" of the judges.
Between 1946 and 1947 he governed with a coalition cabinet; he was deposed in a conspiracy on June 3, 1948.He went into exile first in Argentina and later in Brazil.He returned to Paraguay in 1956, but when he was persecuted by Alfredo Stroessner he had to take refuge again in Argentina, where he died forgotten on January 27, 1983.
During his mandate, the Social Security Institute (IPS ), the Central Bank, the State Merchant Fleet, the Military Geographical Institute and the Paraguayan Meat Corporation.In addition, the guaraní was implemented as a monetary unit.In World War II he supported the United States.
