James Hargreaves

(Hoarstones, 1834-Widnes, 1915) British chemist.Dedicated to the chemical industry, he perfected soap manufacturing methods, started recycling processes for the recovery of phosphates and invented an engine, a precursor to the diesel engine, that used liquid tar as fuel.
