Antonio Baciero
(Aranda de Duero, 1936) Spanish pianist and organist. After carrying out his piano studies at the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music in Madrid, he perfected his technique in Siena (Guido Agosti) and Vienna (Paul Badura-Skoda, Jörg Demus and Alfred Brendel).Soon he directed his career towards the historicist interpretation (for which Demus and Badura-Skoda were excellent examples) of Spanish keyboard music from the 16th to the 18th centuries. Thus, he toured Spain in search of instruments (especially organs) preserved in once powerful churches and converted in our century into mere rural parishes. His work towards the restoration of these instruments, completely abandoned in many cases in the hands completely ignorant of their value and their sonic possibilities, was as meritorious as it was pioneering. The search for suitable instruments was followed by the recording of numerous pieces for organ by Spanish authors, especially Antonio de Cabezón, of whom he made the only comprehensive recording of his work so far.
