Édouard Nieuport

(Blida, 1875-Charmy airfield, near Verdun, 1911) French aviator and engineer.He dedicated himself to the study of aerodynamic problems and was one of the first aircraft builders.During World War I a type of biplane of his invention was widely used.He made numerous flights, in which he broke the speed record (177 km/h).He died while performing a landing maneuver.
