Emilio Bonelli y Hernando
(Zaragoza, 1854-Madrid, 1926) Explorer, Africanist and Spanish military man who participated in the Spanish colonization of Western Sahara.In 1876 he took possession of the territory and was appointed commissioner of the Spanish Sahara.In 1887 he continued his explorations in Africa and reached the Muni basin, in Equatorial Guinea.He was appointed vice president of the Spanish Africanist League, a position he held until his death.He published several books on his explorations: The Empire of Morocco in 1882, The Sahara in 1887 and Spanish Guinea, new territories in Africa .
