Gaudenzio Ferrari

(Valduggia, c .1480-Milan, 1546) Italian painter, sculptor and architect.He was inspired by Bramantino and collaborated with Rafael Sanzio in Rome.He worked in Saronno ( Concert of Angels , 1535) and in Vercelli.

While in Florence the lessons of Leonardo da Vinci were assumed as an important trend, although no less than others, in Lombardy they had an exclusive and immediate repercussion, forming a true school focused on both the aesthetic content and the more technical aspects of the master's painting.Leonardo's teachings also reached the Piedmont region, where the painter and sculptor Gaudenzio Ferrari made, in the city of Varallo Sesia, large fresco cycles with scenes from the life of Jesus Christ, both in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and in the Sacro Monte chapel, some of them also made up of sculptures.

The art of Gaudenzio Ferrari fuses elements of diverse origin, both Peruginescos and Rafaelescos and, once again, Central European.These are most strongly revealed in his works of the 1530s, especially in the frescoes in the church of San Cristoforo in Vercelli; Ferrari decorated the church with two symmetrical cycles on the lives of the Virgin Mary and the Magdalene, in whose free and agitated scenes the aesthetics of German engravers beats.

Between 1534 and 1536 he filled the dome of the Sanctuary of Saronno with phalanxes of musical angels that are concentrated in circles around the figure of the Father, giving rise to a sparkling display of gracefully gesturing, naked or dressed bodies in brightly colored robes.
