Cataluna is located in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula, a community that consists of four provinces: Lleida, Girona, Barcelona and Tarragona.

During prehistoric times, Cataluna was colonized as the rest of the peninsula, by the Greeks and the Carthaginians.

The territories that formed throughout history have varied until the time of the dynastic union in the twelfth century in which the County of Barcelona joins the Kingdom of Aragon, which ultimately means all territories will be part of the Crown of Aragon.

The Catalan territory contributed to the Crown all maritime accessibility and thanks to the importance of Aragon and its economy, they acquired an extraordinary relevance in the maritime trade.
