Don Omar
(Stage name of William Omar Landrón, Puerto Rico, 1978) Puerto Rican singer and songwriter.Educated in Villa Palmeras, an underprivileged sector of Puerto Rico, Don Omar began to compose his first songs and poems at the age of twelve; Soon he was strongly attracted to reggaeton , a musical genre that emerged in Puerto Rico in the early 90's.
His musical beginnings are linked to the church, to which he was linked as a pastor. For four years he was pastor at the Church of the Restoration in Christ in Bayamón, which he left due to a sentimental disappointment (his well-known theme Although you left includes this episode from his biography).During this period he was part of several groups that sang in religious celebrations.
Don Omar
In 2002 Don Omar's career took a turn when Héctor El Bambino , a famous member of the duo Héctor y Tito , heard him and decided to sponsor him as a music producer. It was then that Landrón adopted the name Don Omar and began to participate as a composer in productions by other artists, such as Las 9 plagas .He composed several songs for Tito as a soloist, and after standing out as a composer he worked with the duo Héctor y Tito in the production of A La Reconquista .He also worked alongside MVP , Grayskull (You're getting hot), The Godfather (Leave her), and Da'Flex , among others.
Despite the fact that his lyrics have weighed the accusation of promoting violence and inviting sex, the strong, danceable and sensual rhythm that characterizes reggaeton (a fusion of classic Salsa, the traditional Puerto Rican Bomba and the urban rhythm of Hip Hop) has provided him with bestsellers and great popularity. His next contribution to the genre was the song Dale Don dale , with which he sold more than 60,000 copies of his album The last Don , which for several weeks occupied the top positions of the Latin Billboard.Since then he has remained as a reference interpreter of the genre, along with figures such as Nicky Jam, Daddy Yankee or the Wisin y Yandel duo.
