(Brescia, 1942) Italian motorcyclist who has the most extensive record of all time in the specialty, with sixteen world titles, surpassing the thirteen that, almost in the same years, he had achieved by the Spanish Angel Nieto, although the Spanish drove in small displacements and the Italian in large ones.His first major victory took place in 1963, the year in which he was proclaimed winner of the Italian championship with the Morini team.MV Agusta rider, in his first season in the World Championship (1966) he was runner-up in 350 and 500 cC, becoming the youngest world champion the following year, in which he won the 500 cC World Championship
From that moment, he would start a series of triumphs that would lead him to get ten world titles from 1968 to 1972 (in 350 and 500 cC) always riding with MV Agusta, against the increasingly harsh opposition of Japanese motorcycles.He lost the 350 world title in 1973 to teammate Phil Read, later abandoning his team over sporting rivalries with Read.Signed by the Japanese teams, he raced the last years of his career with Yamaha, with which, even in his sporting decline, he achieved four more world championships, the last of which was the World Cup of 500 c.C.in 1975.He achieved a total of sixty-eight Grand Prix victories of the 500cc World Championship.
