Joseph Addison
(Milston, 1672-Kensington, 1719) English writer and politician.He was a deputy, deputy secretary of state and first secretary to the viceroy of Ireland.His literary fame is based on the quality of his essay prose, published in the literary magazines The Tatler and The Spectator , of which he was a founding member along with R.Steele.He created the character of Sir Roger de Coverley, the ideal of the "modern gentleman" of the English bourgeoisie.
