Carlos Ortiz Cobos
Ecuadorian musicologist, born in Cuenca in 1890.He studied at the San José de los Hermanos Cristianos school, and at age 14 he began studying music under the guidance of of Professor Luis Arcentales.At the age of 18 he began to produce some rhythms and since then he has participated in orchestras such as the Roxine and the Vanegas Brothers, to end up founding his own in 1930, under the name of "Orquesta Austral".He was part, as an arranger, of the Cuenca Symphony from its founding until his death.
He received several awards in recognition of his art, the last of which was the National Decoration of Merit, awarded by the President of the Republic Ponce Enríquez, in 1960.Ortiz Cobos has trained several generations of musicians from his chair in the schools of his hometown Benigno Malo, Manuel J.Calle and the José María Rodríguez Conservatory of Music.His inspiration are the pieces Linda Cuencana , Vamos Linda , That's why I love you and Cuenca , among many others.
