Josep Maria Benet i Jornet
(Barcelona, 1940) Spanish playwright in Catalan.After approaching in an initial stage the approaches of the Spanish realistic theater of Buero y Sastre, and of the American theater of Williams and Miller, as reflected in Una vella, coneguda olor (1963) and Fantasia per a un auxiliar administratiu (1964), screened in the trilogy on the Drudània cycle, formed by Cançons perdudes (1966), Marc i Jofre or els alchemists of fortune (1968) and La nau (1969), a reflection on their country, the Western system and society, respectively, through the use of some techniques of Brechtian origin, which reached their culmination in Berenàveu a les fosques (1973).
This work was followed by La desaparició de Wendy (1973) and Revolta de bruixes (1975).In 1978 he wrote Descripció d'un paisatge (1978), where he insists on the central theme of El manuscrit d'Alí Bei (Prize of the Society of Authors, 1984), the of human dissatisfaction and nostalgia for something that will not be achieved.With Ai, carai! (1989) he opened up to the comedy of intrigue, while in Desig (1989) he investigated the human condition.
Despite his early beginnings as a playwright, Josep Maria Benet i Jornet's theatrical work did not become common on the Catalan scene until the 1970s.His connection to Catalan television (TV3) is particularly well known, where he has been a scriptwriter and scriptwriter for numerous costumbrista or dramatic series.Other of his premiered works were Apunts on the beauty of temps and La fageda .The National Theater of Catalonia staged an applauded montage of his work, premiered under the title Olors.
