José Pijoán
(José Pijoán Soteras; Barcelona, 1881-Lausana, 1963) Spanish art critic and historian.He studied architecture in his hometown.Incorporated from a very young age to the Catalan revival, he collaborated in Pèl i Ploma , Catalunya and other newspapers.In 1905 he published his only book of poetry, El cançoner .Pijoán was one of the most active and effective collaborators in Prat de la Riba's cultural policy and was one of the founders of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans, of which he was secretary. El meu don Joan Maragall is a short critical biography of the great poet, with whom the author had a close friendship.Driven by his penchant for art studies, he was in Rome and spent long periods in the United States.In 1930 he worked in Geneva, invited by the secretariat of the League of Nations.His most important work is History of Art in three volumes.Later he published a historical synthesis, World History , another art history, Summa artis , in collaboration with BJ Cossío and a Breviary of the history of humanity (1948).In 1942 the Spanish edition of Prampolini's History of Universal Literature appeared, directed by our author.
