Edwin Garrigues Boring
(Philadelphia, 1886-1968) American psychologist.He held the Edgar Pierce chair of psychology at Harvard.In his work History of Experimental Psychology (1929) he described the genesis of experimental psychology, from its origins in early 19th century physiology and philosophy to its acceptance as an important part of psychology.and as an academic discipline a century later.
Edwin G.Boring
Edwin Boring highlighted the Germanic origin of experimental psychology, although he recognized the importance of schools in the United States of America and the United Kingdom; the American, in particular, for the contributions it made with behavioral studies in animals and humans.His work was criticized for its contempt for psychological medicine and psychoanalysis by Sigmund Freud.
Later he published Sensation and perception in the history of experimental psychology (1942), less work ambitious, but more satisfying from a historical point of view.Other important Boring books are Physical Dimensions of Consciousness (1933), Psychology: a Factual Textbook (1935) and Psychology for the Fighting Man (1943).
